InterGenerate helps to create community gardens throughout Westchester County.  Focusing largely on school and church/temple property, we are bringing our model of intergenerational gardening to leaders in the community.  The United States, once the breadbasket of the world, is now a net food importer, no longer able to feed ourselves.  Transformation of local property to garden/farm land and a wider distribution of the skills necessary to grow and preserve our own food will enable greater food security.  Local eating also promotes healthier eating habits and dramatically reduces our carbon footprint thereby allowing us to live more gently on the Earth.

InterGenerate promotes best practices for community gardenning.  As part of our work, we gather information from around the county, the state and the nation to help each new initiative achieve the greatest impact.  This information will soon be available on our web site.  In addition, we are partnering with Westchester County to bring interested folks to a roundtable as a way to broaden our collective knowledge base and strengthen the sustainability community.

InterGenerate is opening our own community garden and center for enironmental and social sustainability at Marsh Sanctuary in Mt. Kisco, NY.   Containing 60 plots, a sustainability library and a demonstration kitchen for workshops and community meals. We hope to open the garden in spring 2010 and the center in summer, 2011. 

InterGenerate is building intentional relationships across a variety of diversities including age, race, culture, religion and socio-economic status.  Sustainability is an inclusive concept by definition and we are committed to a new vision of community that crosses traditional boundaries and sustains and supports everyone.
