InterGenerate to be Located at John Jay Homestead!

John Jay Homestead, the Historic Landmark located in Bedford, NY, and InterGenerate are working together to open a teaching garden on site.  In the spirit of the Katonah Farm, InterGenerate will bring agriculture back while teaching participants about growing and sharing food.

The teaching garden will provide a plot of land for 12-14 people, preferably in intergenerational pairs, on which they will garden with the others in the class twice a week under the tutelage of an experienced and committed teacher.

In addition, we'll have harvest suppers in the garden and possibly classes in food preservation, freezing, canning, pickling and drying encouraging greater intradependence for residents of Westchester County.

InterGenerate and Marsh Sanctuary Enter Partnership

InterGenerate and Marsh Sanctuary have come to an agreement about the use of two of the buildings and a large piece of the land located at the Sanctuary.

We are creating 60 separate plots for the use of community gardens and a larger communal plot that will help feed the Mt. Kisco Inter-Faith Food Pantry.  We're also looking at adding raspberry and blueberry bushes for members.

The buildings need to be renovated, which we'll do using the most recent sustainable options.  In fact, there's a shed filled with wood Marsh has been saving from past renovations, so we're all ready to reuse materials.  Solar power and renewable water systems are next!

Once we're done, we'll have a demonstration kitchen for canning, drying, and pickling, a room with a big harvest table for members to sort the harvest, meeting rooms and play rooms, a library of sustainability resources and a nature center designed to teach us all about how we can live gently on our planet.

We at InterGenerate are jumping out of our skins with excitement!

And now…the work begins!
